Immigration policy rally planned in Rexburg
A new group calling itself “Families Belong Together” has planned a locally organized rally Thursday at the Porter Park Beehive Pavilion in Rexburg.
According to its national website, the group opposes the “cruel, inhumane and unjustified separation of children from their parents along the U.S. border with Mexico.” The group calls the activity “violent abuse” that creates irreversible trauma.
The Trump administration says its “zero-tolerance” policy is intended to deter mothers from bringing children to the border. In practice, the policy has the effect of separating parents from children as parents are held for prosecution and children are placed with a sponsor or held in a shelter.
The Rexburg event is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will include live music and dance performances.
