Terry First project seeks volunteers

Pocatello is soliciting volunteers to participate in its Terry Street and First Avenue improvement project.

The Planning and Development Services Department is partnering with Team Better Block and Community Builders to help build temporary improvements to Terry Street and First Avenue between August 22-25.

A core group held a community gathering in July to gather suggestions on how to improve the area.

“Some of the ideas included painting murals, creating temporary bike paths, having places to watch the trains, and adding curb extensions at 4th and 5th Avenue to name a few,” said Matthew Lewis, Senior Planner with the City of Pocatello. “Now, we want to see how these ideas would look and feel in practice and most importantly, how they could enhance the Terry First corridor.”

The “Terry First” project aims to create a vision for the corridor that will ultimately spur economic development, support redevelopment, increase bike and pedestrian mobility, and improve the connection between Idaho State University and the Old Town Pocatello area.

A workshop is slated for Tuesday, August 7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Portneuf Valley Brewing, 615 South 1st Avenue. Those interested in volunteering or residents who were unable to attend the July Walk-and-Talk are encouraged to participate and provide their input. A draft concept plan for the Build a Better Block event will be featured at the workshop. The draft concept plan can be found at terryfirst.com/project/project-documents.
