Wardens investigate mule deer poaching
A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to those responsible for the death of a doe mule deer that was illegally shot with archery equipment south of Afton, Wyoming.
Wyoming Game and Fish wardens said the deer was discovered September 2, about a mile west of the Fish Creek Road and just north of Salt River Pass. The animal was likely killed Saturday, September 1.
Meat from only the hind quarters and back straps was retrieved. It is a violation to not also retrieve the tenderloins and front shoulder meat.
The archery deer season opened in the area on September 1, but antlerless deer can only be taken by youth hunters age 12-17 years old.
Anyone with information, or who may have noticed suspicious vehicles or activities, is encouraged to contact Afton Game Warden James Hobbs at 307-885-3717 or the Jackson Game and Fish Office at 1-800-423-4113. The Stop Poaching hotline is 1-877-WGFD-TIP (1-877-943-3847).
