Young grizzly removed from eastern Idaho, sent towildlife sanctuary
Idaho Fish and Game officials removed another bear from eastern Idaho. The young grizzly was trapped on Sept. 4 and transferred to a Texas wildlife sanctuary, where it will remain.
This bear was a yearling that had been spotted in the Flat Rock and Coffee Pots campgrounds and near Mack’s Inn.
Generally, grizzly bears stay with their family unit for two years. Fish and Game biologists were not sure why the bear was on its own, but they say the bear was dependent on human food and had also lost its fear of humans.
The only options for this bear were euthanasia or a wildlife sanctuary.
Luckily for the young grizzly, officials were able to find a facility that had room for it.
Fish and Game reports this is the third bear to be removed this summer because the bears were attracted to food left out by people. The first two bears were lethally removed.
Officials say Idaho isn’t the only state dealing with problem bears. There have been numerous cases of relocations in neighboring states.
