Teton Interagency firefighters monitor Leigh Canyon fire
Grand Teton National Park officials are keeping a close eye on the 3.5 acre Leigh Canyon fire, one mile west of Leigh Lake. The fire is burning in avalanche debris, downed logs, mixed conifer and brush.
The fire is actively smoldering and creeping, but sparse fuels are limiting its spread. It is being monitored for public safety purposes.
Backcountry permits are not being issued for the CMC Camp on Mount Moran, campsites near Leigh Lake, Bearpaw and Trapper Lakes, Bearpaw Bay and Little Grassy Island. The park is encouraging campers and hikers using Paintbrush Canyon and southern Leigh Lake to be alert and prepared to modify their plans if fire behavior changes.
