Governor declares hunting and fishing day
Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter has proclaimed Saturday “Hunting and Fishing Day” in Idaho.
The day was established in 1972 to recognize the contributions of hunters and anglers for their contributions to wildlife conservation and society in general.
According to the proclamation, Idaho sports 534,000 hunters and fishermen who spend more than $1.02 billion a year on their sports. That generates 15,261 jobs in Idaho and $97 million in state and local taxes.
Last year alone, sportsmen generated $57.6 million through “user-pay” licenses to support the Idaho Fish and Game Department’s conservation efforts.
