Local organization helps with utility payments

Starting in October, Idaho Falls Power will begin disconnecting services for delinquent accounts past 30 days past due without an approved payment or medical extension. One organization wants to help with those bills for those who are struggling.

Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership is providing energy assistance through its “LIHEAP” program through the months of November through March.

LIHEAP stands for low-income home energy assistance program. The program provides a one-time payment to a households primary service provider. It’s designed to help with the extra winter heat costs.

“That’s what we are here for. We’re here to assist our community, we’re to help them and this is the best way that we can assist them with,” said Evelyn Kinikin, the family services director at EICAP. “Especially if we have the funds. If we have the funds available everybody should be aware of it.”

In order to be eligible for energy assistance must meet income qualifications.
