Local elementary school principal killed in UTV crash

UPDATE 9/30/18 5:00 p.m.: Scott Woolstenhulme, the current assistant superintendent for School District 93, will take over as interim principal.

The school district’s crisis team is meeting Sunday night to discuss how to best help students cope with the loss. The team will also be on hand for students in school Monday.

Roberts has been with the Bonneville County School District since 2010. He has been principal at Woodland Hills for five years. Prior to that, he was principal at Iona Elementary for three years and spent two years as assistant principal at Rocky Mountain Middle School.

In a video posted online by the school district Sunday, colleagues remember him as a good friend, a good man, and an educator who loved both his staff and the students.

“He was just an administrator that loved kids and did the right thing for kids,” said Chuck Shackett, superintendent. “He is going to be missed greatly. We just saw him and it is tragic. We’re just trying to cope with it.”

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at the Ammon Foothills Stake Center, 3934 East 49th South in Ammon.

Overflow services will be broadcast at the Blackhawk LDS Ward Building, 7118 South Ledge Rock Drive in Ammon.

A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road.

Due to the number of substitutes needed on this day, and with the safety and security concerns created with school and district level administrators out of their schools and offices, all Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 schools and buildings will be closed Thursday.
