After 30 years, Eastern Idaho to be represented on Idaho Supreme Court
After three decades, eastern Idaho will have a representative on the Idaho Supreme Court.
Seventh District Judge Greg Moeller was named to a vacancy on the court by Governor C.L.”Butch”Otter Friday.
Moeller is a 1981 graduate of South Fremont High School in St. Anthony. After a two-year church mission in Japan, Moeller graduated magna cumlaude from BYU in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He received his law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU in 1990 and joined the firm of (ultimately) Rigby, Andrus, and Moeller, Chtd.
Moeller worked for 16 years to free an Ashton man from prison who had been wrongfully convicted of murder. He represented Madison County in overturning the state’s 2001 legislative redistricting plan, and was involved in numerous water right cases at the center of the Snake River Basin Adjudication.
He was named a district judge in 2009.
Moeller told us he would do his best to serve all the citizens of Idaho by upholding the rule of law. In a written statement, he said:
“I am mindful and so appreciative of all the support and encouragement I received from friends, the public, attorneys, and other judges. It is not an easy thing to put yourself into the public spotlight and seek a position like this, especially for the third time. However, it is much easier to believe in yourself when you know others believe in you. I want to especially acknowledge the tremendous support I received from my colleagues in the Seventh Judicial District Bar Association; they were instrumental in providing helpful input to the Idaho Judicial Council and the Governor.
I have spent almost 29 years of my professional life working in Eastern Idaho, as an attorney and as a district judge. Many of the people I served I have known since my childhood. Although it will be bittersweet to leave this wonderful community, Kathy and I will do so with warm memories, deep gratitude, and excited anticipation for the adventures that await us.”
Moeller is a frequent speaker on various legal topics across the state and has spoken at national conferences. He was recently appointed as a judicial representative on the Idaho Criminal Justice Commission and the Region 7 Behavioral Health Board. In 2015, he received the Professionalism Award from the Eagle Rock Inns of Court, and in 2016 was named Public Servant of the Year by the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
He is married to the former Kathy Keck of Ashton, Idaho. They have five children and six grandchildren
