Officers commended for handling of dangerous suspect
Cory S. Kennington, 42, was arrested at 961 Highland Blvd., in Pocatello at around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Kennington was arrested for aggravated assault after he allegedly approached an officer with a large knife.
Pocatello Police Senior Staff are commending the officers who responded to the incident. They said the officers effectively used verbal de-escalation techniques with him.
As a result, they were able to resolve the incident without injury or force.
According to police, the verbal de-escalation techniques are often effective when dealing with people in emotional and crisis situations. They said the techniques offer options other than the use of force to come to a resolution.
