Avalanche conditions “moderate” so far
Avalanche conditions Friday are generally described as “moderate” to the north and east of the Idaho Falls area.
The Gallatin Avalanche Center focused on the region west and north of West Yellowstone and the Bridger Teton Avalanche Center in western Wyoming east of Idaho Falls reports heightened avalanche conditions on specific terrain features.
Conditions are more tricky in the Sawtooth region Friday.
Observers noted Friday, “The avalanche danger will rise sharply this morning as new snow and wind create dangerous avalanche conditions. Fresh wind slabs teeter atop a weak sugary snowpack. You’re most likely to trigger a wind slab near ridgelines in exposed middle and upper elevation terrain.”
A condition update is expected Saturday.
