Pony Express carwash will use new methods for water conservation

This time of year, water conservation is rarely spoken about. But, it is something we should be mindful, even during the winter months. A new car wash in Chubbuck will be doing just that.

As most of the roads are salted this time of year, it is nearly impossible to keep your cars clean. Car washes are a necessity especially when its cold out. However, there’s a new kind of car wash entering the industry.

“One thing we hope to do is really innovate in the water reclaim of our business,” says Travis Benson, Co-Owner, Pony Express Carwash in Chubbuck.

A Water Reclaim System uses recycled water to wash your car.

“It’s a huge system and a major part of our operation. We reclaim almost all of the water that we use. The only water that does not go into our reclaim system is what is dripping off the car after they leave our dryer tunnel.”

Water from the carwash travels through a trench system underground. There, the dirty water goes through a series of “settling” tanks where most of the larger debris is removed. Finally, the water passes through a final filtration tank where it will then be ready for use.

Kyle Benson, Co-Owner, Pony Express Carwash says, “Our objective is to minimize the environmental impact on that. We don’t want to send water to the city. We’re going to use a little to keep cars clean with a couple of components in the wash but we want to reuse that water as much as we can.”
