Community Food Basket lends a helping hand to local federal employees affected by the government shutdown

The Idaho Falls Community Food Basket is lending a helping hand to local federal employees affected by the government shutdown.

With the federal government still under a partial shutdown for nearly a month now, some local government employees are starting to feel the struggle of making ends meet.

Trying to get by without the earnings of several missed paychecks, some are finding it difficult to bring food to the table.

With the help of Idaho Falls Mayor, Rebecca Casper and Airport Director, Rick Cloutier; they were able to collaborate with the Idaho Falls Community Food Basket to come up with the idea of hosting a Federal Employee Shutdown Support Day.

Establishing a community resource to help, support, and provide food to all the workers going unpaid.

The Idaho Falls Community Food Basket is aware that a lot of these individuals have been put out of there comfort zone and would like to let them know the community is here to help.

David Manson, Executive Director of Idaho Falls Community Food Basket says, “For them to be put in a situation to have to ask for help is a hard position to find themselves in. We want them to know that this effort is about appreciating them for their services to the public, and we’re just providing a bridge to help them over the gap.”

The Community Food Basket is holding another Federal Employee Shutdown Support Day next Saturday, January 26th from 12 pm to 4 pm.

All federal employees looking to pick up food must bring some form of proof of government employment.
