Students band together to raise money for music supplies

A couple of Rimrock Elementary School students in Ammon “banded” together to raise money for their school’s music department.

The music teacher, Jana Johnson, said her class drumsticks kept breaking. Two girls in her class noticed and wanted to do something.

They sold cookies and lemonade after school to raise money. The students were able to make $68.

“We would do it three times a week,” said Aubrey Webb, a fifth-grader. “We would come home from school and bake cookies and just walk around and sell them.”

The school district ended up buying new drumsticks for Johnson. The money that the girls raised went to recorders and music books.

“There’s a lot of sacrifices teachers make. There is a lot of out-of-pocket expenses,” Johnson said. “It makes me feel like they really value and do appreciate (me), that they’re willing to help out and do that for the school.”
