Masked critter blamed for power outage

UPDATE: 2-15

Idaho Falls Power said power was restored around 9 p.m. after an outage first reported at around 8:20 p.m. About 2,000 customers were affected.

The problem was traced to a fault at the Westside Substation. While squirrels are one of the most common causes of power line failures, Idaho Falls Power said this one was caused by a raccoon.

UPDATE 9:08 P.M.: Power has been restored to the area, if power has not been restored for you, you can call Idaho Falls power at 208-612-8348.

ORIGINAL STORY:A substation failure on the west side of Idaho Falls is leaving 2,000 customers.

The outage began around 7:30 Thursday night and is mostly affecting the west side of the city.

Power crews are dispatched and trying to get electricity back as soon as possible.

Crews are hoping to have the power back by 9:20.
