Shooting suspect taken into custody, 4 more arrested

UPDATE 7:52 p.m.: Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Grand Teton Mall in Idaho Falls around 5 p.m. after hearing a report that Kane Simons was there.

After Simons was spotted by deputies coming out of the mall he attempted to run back in but was caught and taken into custody.

During this time, two other people with Simons were told to stop, but started running away from deputies.

One entered a white Chevy Impala that collided with a Sheriff’s Office Patrol Car and started driving the area around the mall.

The other, an adult female was taken into custody by deputies at the mall.

The driver in the Impala fled the mall with deputies in pursuit to Sunnyside and then west bound at a high rate of speed.

As the suspect neared I-15, an Idaho State Police Officer was able to deploy spike strips in an attempt to slow it down.

As the suspect vehicle attempted to turn onto I-15 it was pushed off the side of the road by a patrol car.

Deputies were able to take the 3 occupants into custody at that time.

Deputies are continuing to investigate this incident along with detectives from the Chubbuck Police Department as it relates to their shooting incident.

Simons was placed under arrest for charges relating to it.

An update of charges on the other 4 suspects taken into custody will given when available.

UPDATE 6:20 p.m. Chubbuck Police report Kane Simons was taken into custody Friday evening in Bonneville County.

Police say details surrounding his arrest will be forthcoming from Bonneville County when they are able to release more information.

The investigation into the shooting is still very active and ongoing, and no further information will be available regarding the shooting.

UPDATE 2/15/19 12:30 p.m. Chubbuck Police report the investigation into the shooting that occurred Thursday morning is still on ongoing.

Police are no longer seeking 19-year-old Day Witt in reference to this incident.

Officials are still interested in any information you may have in regards to Kane Simons whereabouts as police are still actively seeking him in regard to the arrest warrant.

He is 6’6″ tall and weighs about 200 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He is believed to be armed and dangerous.

UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: Chubbuck Police report there is very little information available regarding the victim in this case; however, police do not believe that his injuries are not currently life-threatening.

Alana Heyrend has been located, and police are no longer looking for her or the yellow 2001 Ford Focus.

Police are still actively seeking 19-year-old Day Witt as a person of interest in this case.

Police also still believe 20-year-old Kane Simons is armed and considered to be dangerous.

A nationwide extradition arrest warrant has been issued for Simons, charging him with aggravated battery.

Chubbuck Police are asking the public to help locate three persons wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting incident.

Police were called to a residence in the 4600 block of Ponderosa early Thursday. An adult male reported he had been shot.

Chubbuck Police and Bannock County deputies responded and secured the scene while the victim was taken by ambulance to Portneuf Regional Medical Center for treatment. His condition is not known.

Police are looking for a white, 20-year-old man identified as Kane Simons. He is 6’6″ tall and weighs about 200 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Police are also looking for two females. Day Witt, 19, is 5′ 5″ tall and weighs 120 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

The third person is Alana Heyrend, 19, who is 5’7″ tall and weights 190 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes and drives a yellow, 2001 Ford Focus with Idaho license plate 1B AT 241.

Anyone with information about any of the suspects should contact their local law enforcement agency immediately or Chubbuck Police at 208-237-7172.
