Presidents Day protest planned
Local advocates plan a Presidents Day protest of President Trump’s emergency powers declaration.
Scheduled for noon on the Broadway Bridge in Idaho Falls, supporters said the action is designed to protest the president’s declaration of an emergency to expand his executive power, then take money from other programs to build a border wall.
A similar protest, organized by United Vision for Idaho, is also planned at noon on the Statehouse steps at the Capitol in Boise.
“So far, Congress has been content to let the executive usurp more and more of their powers,” said local organizer MaCay Frerichs. “But we want them to do their jobs. They are responsible for appropriations, and rather than just caving, our so-called leaders should stand up and exercise their oversight as the Constitution calls them to do.”
