Missing snowmobilers safely rescued

Three snowmobilers have been successfully rescued and returned to Togwotee Lodge Tuesday afternoon.

Teton County, Wyoming Search and Rescue teams reached the snowmobilers near Angle Mountain, where they had been trapped since about 1 p.m. Monday. They were located within designated wilderness area, where motorized equipment is prohibited.

The rescued men are Denver, Colorado residents. Two are 33 and one is 39.

Search and Rescue began their effort to recover the men after two additional members of the group returned to Togwotee Lodge and reported the rest of their group might be stranded.

Due to road closures, the search and rescue team entered the back country on snowmobiles at Kelly Warm Springs and proceeded back through tghe Gros Ventre to gain ascue to the rescue area.

There were multiple agencies working together today to make this rescue a success, and we are truly grateful for that collaboration,” said Teton County Sheriff Matt Carr. “We also want to remind all backcountry users that Search and Rescue resources are limited, so in these weather conditions, it is critical to exercise extreme caution and proper judgment. We were fortunate that this was the only incident that required attention today.”
The agencies participating included the Natoinal Forest Service, Fremont County Search and Rescue, the National Park Service, Teton County Sheriffs’ Office and Togwotee Mountain Lodge guides.
