Class writes letters to troops and gets gifts back

After writing letters to troops before the holiday’s, Lori Biggs’ math class at Bonneville High School got some letters back on Thursday.

Biggs’ brother is an Air Force pilot. She knows how hard it was to be away during the holidays. She had her students write letters to his old squadron who are deployed just outside of Dubai.

Each of her classes were assigned five people from the squadron. Each person in the class had to write to each of those five.

Not only did they get letters back from the pilots, they also got a flag that had been flown on one of their ships.

“Now we’re going to be able to see that flag and think about the true meaning of the national anthem and Pledge of Allegiance because we got personal letters from the people who are making it possible for us to say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning,” said Joneichea Chacon, a senior at Bonneville High School.

Biggs said getting a flag flown as a gift while in combat is one of the highest honors.

She will continue to have her classes write letters every year.
