What to do when you see wild baby animals alone

Idaho Fish and Game would like to remind the public an issue that happens a lot this time of year.

Now that the snow has melted, people may come across wild baby animals alone and out and about.
Do not go up to them and take them home with them home with you.

Idaho Fish and Game says that’s not the best way to care for a baby animal, but there are ways you can help.

“If you come across wildlife young, the best thing to do is leave it alone. A lot of the time, the animal is just fine,” Rob Cavallaro, the regional wildlife habitat manager for Idaho Fish and Game in the Upper Snake Region, said. “Many species, part of their strategies is to leave their young on the ground. If you have concerns that there is something more going on like if the animal is injured, you should give us a call.”

If you do happen to come across a young animal, be sure to mark your location and call Idaho Fish and Game at (208) 525-7290 and someone will come out and take the proper action.
