BBB helps locals find out if their information was stolen from last week’s email scam

An email scam last week affected the personal information of more than 2,000 clients with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. Those affected should have received a notification about it last week. Community members may be wondering what they should do if their information is stolen through a scam. The Better Business Bureau says to contact the organization where the breach happened to see what information they have. There are also things you can check to make sure nothing fraudulent is happening. Jeremy Johnson, from the Better Business Bureau said, “You may want to look at your credit cards, your debit card accounts and kind of just be watching what’s coming into you as far as emails, text messages, anything like that. Because if your data has been breached, unfortunately, scammers can use your information to come at you at a variety of different ways.” Personal information stolen as part of the data breach may include Social Security numbers, names, and services provided from October 2016 through September 2017 involving mental health services and the infant toddler program.
