Deputies safe after South Fork accident

Two Jefferson County Waterway Deputies are safe after an accident on the South Fork of the Snake River about 3 miles upstream from the Menan-Lorenzo Boat Ramp.

Sheriff Steve Anderson said the deputies were conducting routine boat-safety checks when the Sheriff’s Office jet boat took in some debris, causing the motor to stall. When the boat lost power it floated into a log jam and overturned the boat.

The deputies got to shore without injury. Another Sheriff’s Office boat was dispatched to retrieve the deputies. Officers are still working to retrieve the boat.

Among those coming to assist were the Central Fire Station’s Quick Response Unit, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police.
