Fundraiser set after child receives severe burns in fryer grease spill

Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel employees have formed a group to raise funds for the family of a tragic accident on July 3.

The incident happened when the Zepeda family of Groveland, Idaho, was operating a mobile concession business at the Annual Treaty Day Celebration at the Fort Hall Rodeo Grounds. A young child was victim to a fryer grease spill resulting in severe burns. Since many employees were first to react to the accident, it has left a profound impact on the entire team at the Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel.

“Our team, collectively, are heartbroken for this young boy,” expressed Pamela Gallegos Chief Executive Officer. “We are deeply affected and would like to not only continue to lift this family in prayer but would like to help relieve some financial stress from this accident.”

After witnessing an event such as this, the employees found emotional support within each other.

“Once the ambulance left, we all stopped and said a prayer for that little boy. We also took up a small collection, with whatever we had in our pockets, to help the family out,” said Lloyd George, Interim Food and Beverage Director.

To further support the family, the employees have organized a small internal fundraiser and the Management team has agreed to match their efforts.

On July 27, 2019 during the upcoming Paquita la del Barrio Outdoor Concert, a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, as well as food and beverage sales from all restaurants within the Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel, will be added to employee donations.

Starting at 4 p.m., donation jars will be available at Hotel Reception and Host Stands at the Camas Sports Grill and Painted Horse Buffet.

“Our goal is just to help ease some of the financial burden this tragedy brings,” says Gallegos. “Our team will work toward that.”
