Shady fire grows in wilderness backcountry

The “Shady” fire has grown to 1,964 acres about 2 miles east of Seafoam Guard Station in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness.

25 firefighters are assigned to the lightning caused fire that is burning in subalpine fir and lodgepole pine.

Fire managers said Wednesday that the fire was backing down ridges to the southwest. The edge of the fire has burned into the 2012 Halstead fire scar.

Firefighters have been unable to directly engage the fire, which is being managed to minimize exposure to fire personnel while protecting identified values in the area. In that area, those values including mining and Forest Service infrastructure.

There are no fire restrictions at the present time, but visitors are encouraged to use caution.
