The Salmon Challis National Forest has implemented an emergency road and trail closure.

Forest officials said they took the action to protect forest visitors from safety hazards associated with the “Shady” fire.

The affected areas include Forest Road #40012 (Sheep Mountain Road), Forest Trail #4005 (Sheep Creek Trail), Forest Trail #4012 (Duffield Trail), and Forest Train #4023 (Bernard Creek Trail).

As of Thursday morning, the lightning-caused Shady fire had grown to 1,964 acres. It continues to burn in the Shady and Castro Creek areas in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness.
