School District 25 prepares to appeal for Pocatello High School renovations

After the Historic Preservation Commission denied Pocatello High School’s application, the school district is asking City Council to reconsider.

The application was in regards to renovations the district has planned for the school that would provide accessibility, classrooms, and security. In a news release, the school board said it would preserve the historic significance of Pocatello High School.

But a group of local people disagree.

The Save Pocatello High School Facebook group has gathered more than 2,000 signatures on change.org asking Pocatello/Chubbuck School Board, the Pocatello Planning and Zoning Commission and the Pocatello Historic Preservation Commission to “build an addition more in keeping with the existing architecture.”

On July 3, the Historic Preservation Commission denied the district’s application for a certificate of appropriateness. Now, the school board is asking City Council to reconsider.

On Thursday, the council will vote while the Save Pocatello High School group joins them in the chambers.
