Local Home Depot Manager Back at Work After Trip to Bahamas

On Friday afternoon, Chubbuck Home Depot manager Brad Landon was strolling around the store. Just a week earlier, he had been in the Bahamas having the time of his life.

“We went golfing, that was on Sunday. Snorkeling, we went and swam with the sharks,” Landon said.”You know, frisbee on the beach.”

Landon and his wife, along with a few friends, had planned to spend seven days on the island, but the storm had other plans.

“We had realized, I think it was Saturday afternoon, we had already played 18 holes of golf that day, beautiful weather, and everybody on the island started talking about the weather,” he explained, “even, you know, at the golf shop, they were talking about it.”

When he returned to his hotel room, Landon had received a note from management stating that all of the resort’s outdoor activities would be closed for the duration of the storm.

“So, we have five amazing days of weather and on Saturday we were looking at some of the news reports and the hurricane was turning from a tropical storm to a hurricane and we realized that it was coming closer to the Bahama Islands than we had initially anticipated.”

The group then decided to book a flight to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on Sunday. But when the flight got delayed, they switched their flight to JFK. It would end up being the last flight out of Nassau.

“When we landed, I thought it was kind of comical ’cause everybody cheered and everybody clapped,” Landon said. “My wife and I were like ‘oh okay, well that’s nice.’ We made it, but at no point did we feel like our lives were in danger.”

Upon returning home, Landon and his wife began to see some of the damage Dorian had done.

He said he felted blessed that he was able to make it back, but said he had such a great trip that he would love to go back to the island.

“We would go back in a hurricane season,” Landon added. “It was a great experience, it’s beautiful.”
