Idaho National Guard announces Gowen Thunder 2023 Open House and Air Show

GOWEN FIELD, Idaho (KIFI) – The Idaho National Guard is hosting Gowen Thunder 2023 Open House and Airshow Aug. 26-27, 2023 on Gowen Field. The event is free and open to the public and will be headlined by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, the Air Force’s F-16 air demonstration squadron.

“The Idaho National Guard receives incredible support from all communities throughout the state,” Maj. Gen. Michael Garshak, adjutant general of Idaho said. “Gowen Thunder 2023 is an opportunity to host the public and show our tremendous appreciation.”

Gowen Thunder 2023 will be the Idaho National Guard’s second open house in more than 20 years and its first since 2017, when it attracted more than 130,000 visitors to Gowen Field from the local area and across the country. Ground shows, aerial acrobatics, static displays and numerous vendors will join the Thunderbirds on Gowen Field during the two-day event.

Several dozen Idaho business and civic leaders joined Idaho National Guard and Idaho National Guard Morale Welfare & Recreation leaders on Gowen Field Thursday for a special announcement of the event.

Bill Connors, president and CEO of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, estimated the economic impact to the Treasure Valley during the 2017 open house at $1.65 million and generated more than 1,800 hotel stays.

In addition to the Thunderbirds, Jet Waco, Lady Liberty, Hell-er Bust, the Misty Blues Jump Team, Power Addiction Air Shows and Franklin’s Flying Circus have all been confirmed to perform at Gowen Thunder 2023. The Idaho Army National Guard and the Idaho Air National Guard will also team up for a combined-arms demonstration, showcasing each branch’s capabilities and ability to work together to accomplish any mission on the battlefield.
