Hundreds of patients evacuated from Los Angeles hospital building that lost power in storm’s wake

KIFI

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Fire Department says a succession of power outages at a hospital prompted the evacuation of 28 patients in critical condition to other facilities. More than 200 other patients at Adventist Health White Memorial were moved to another building early Tuesday, and a baby boy was delivered by staff using flashlights. Hospital President John Raffoul says all patients are safe. The hospital first lost power at 3 a.m. Monday while Tropical Storm Hilary was dumping record rainfall on the city. Emergency generators kicked in, but the power was cut off again late Monday night. It was only restored Tuesday afternoon. Mayor Karen Bass, who once worked at the hospital, is calling for a thorough investigation.
