Endurocross comes to carve up the Mountain America Center
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- Engines are roaring and exhaust smoke fills the air at the Mountain America Event Center in Idaho Falls. The event center was home to the America Motorcycle Association Endurocross race.
Saturday many of the racers spent the day qualifying for the big race that would happen at 7 pm Saturday evening. But qualifying hasn't been easy.
"Instead of just racing over dirt alone, we bring the outdoor elements inside. We have big logs, we have rocks. We have big, big monster tractor tires and different type of obstacles that make it hard for these guys to ride over. For the most part, they fall down a lot," said Tod Hammock one of the organizers said.
Hammock also adds that the event came to Idaho Falls because of the love for Endurocrss in the area. And after talking to many of the motorcycle vendors in the area felt that Idaho Falls was the perfect spot for the event.
"They've all jumped on board to help and participate. It is a great motorcycle community in Idaho Falls and you put all that together and that is why we are here," said Hammock.
Hammock adds that watching the race in person is a different reaction than watching it through video.
"A lot of a lot of sports motorsports, you can get someone who can be in the lead, whether it be NASCAR or some type of other type of race, and this guy's got the lead pretty good he's going to win. Endurocross is not that way. The leader could be out there thinking I'm all good. And the difficulty of the tracks, he gets a little fatigued. So, he's on the ground, he's laying down and, second third place are coming by him and he's trying to get back up and get back in the lead," said Hammock.
