Missing Idaho professor found dead in Glacier National Park

KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - The body of an Idaho professor missing since last week was found in the Hidden Meadows area in Glacier National Park in Montana, park officials said.

George Calvin Adams, 77, of Pocatello, Idaho was staying in Kalispell when he left for a hike on Friday and didn't return. He was reported missing the following day.

Park officials discovered his vehicle Monday at the trailhead of Hidden Meadow Trail. A helicopter then located Adams in an inaccessible area.

No information on the cause of death was released but an animal attack is not suspected, authorities said.

Adams worked as an instructor of bassoon and musicology at Idaho State University. The university said he was the former conductor of the Idaho Falls Symphony and an accomplished musician.

"In the classroom, he remained student-focused, and was known for a big heart and always making the time to offer help," said Thom Hasenpflug, chair of music and director of performing arts. "We will miss George greatly."

Glacier National Park Search and Rescue, Flathead County Sheriff Search and Rescue and Two Bear Air Rescue conducted the search for Adams.
