Austin Woolsey, 24, was arrested on two counts of child abuse, a second-degree felony, according to a probable cause affidavit.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah man was arrested after police say he burned two toddlers with hot water, authorities said.

Austin Woolsey, 24, was arrested Tuesday and faces two felony counts of child abuse, KUTV-TV reported. The relationship between Woolsey and the children is unclear.

Police said both children were taken to a hospital in Washington County with second-degree burns.

A 2-year-old boy had a large burn on his left side from under his arm and across the side of his torso to the diaper line and a 3-year-old boy had burn marks on his forehead and neck, authorities said.

The arresting officer said Woolsey's recollection of the events did not correspond with the burns. Police also said when asked if he intentionally poured hot water on the kids, he allegedly said "yes."

"Austin said he learned his lesson not to do it again. I asked Austin how he learned his lesson and he replied he felt 'kinda sad,'" the affidavit said.

It was not clear if Woolsey had an attorney, and he did not return request for comment.
