Police identify deceased in fatal crash
LAVA HOT SPRINGS, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 6:00 p.m. The Caribou County Sheriff's Office has released the identities of those killed in a fatal crash Tuesday.
Sheriff J Adam Mabey reports the driver of the 2020 Chevy was Kiara Cooper of Kingwood, Texas. Cooper died at the scene. The passenger, Britnay Campbell-Martin of Texas City, Texas, was life flighted to Portneuf Medical and is under medical care.
The driver of the the 2015 Toyota 4Runner has been identified as Timothy Swanson of Bancroft, Idaho. Swanson died at the scene.
Sheriff Mabey said family notifications have been made.
ORIGINAL: Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred at 6:31 p.m. on Tuesday on US 30 at mile marker 377.5, east of Lava Hot Springs.
According to Idaho State Police, a 48-year-old Bancroft man was driving eastbound on US 30 in a 2015 Toyota 4Runner, and a 24-year-old Kingwood, Texas woman and her 25-year-old female passenger from Texas City, Texas, were traveling westbound in a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu.
Police say the Chevy crossed into the eastbound lanes where a head-on collision occurred. The Toyota went airborne, then rolled down the shoulder where it caught fire.
Both drivers succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The passenger of the Chevy was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the Toyota and the passenger of the Chevy were wearing their seatbelts. The driver of the Chevy was not wearing her seatbelt.
All lanes were blocked for approximately seven and a half hours.
This incident is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
