2023 Ammon Mayor’s Community Service award recipients

KIFI

AMMON, Idaho (KIFI) - The City of Ammon announced the 2023 Ammon Mayor's Community Service Award Winners Tuesday.

The winners have been selected for their continued commitment to Ammon, eastern Idaho and fellow community members.

The honorees will be presented their awards on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6:00 p.m. at the Ammon City Building.

This years’ recipients are:

  • Brian Powell
Brian has selflessly given of his time, talents and resources to lead the new Eastern Idaho Regional Sewer District board of directors toward a successful future.  The Sewer District is vitally important to the City of Ammon and its residents.  He provides a steady hand as the Sewer District works on improving its operations and expanding its capacity.  Thank you Brian for your dedicated service.
  • Cindy and Michael Southwick
For several decades, the Southwick Orchard has provided beautiful apples, apricots and plums, not for the Southwick family, but for the community. This gem has been maintained by Michael and Cindy Southwick–and by Michael’s parents before him–since 1986.  Ammon thanks the Southwicks for thinking of those residents in need every year.
  • Taneil Serr
Taneil has a special talent with the youth and a passion for drama.  She has combined those for several years to provide and produce youth drama opportunities in Ammon, blessing the lives of the youth she serves and the community which gets to see her productions.  Thanks, Taneil, for adding such great value to Ammon through your work.
  • Scott Hall
Scott is the city attorney, but his attention to many projects that are important to Ammon goes unnoticed and is often done largely at his own expense.  A good example has been his assistance in helping the Sewer District move in a positive direction.  He has served the city for decades in this manner.  Thank you for all that you do.
  • Jennifer Jennings
Ammon's recent hot air balloon events would not have been the successes they have been without Jennifer.  She has played an integral part in the Ammon Glow events, helping to coordinate and manage many of their aspects, and all because she loves Ammon and loves hot air balloons.  She's a wonderful asset to our community.
  • Austin Crystal
Austin has been an invaluable asset in making the Westmark Stadium at Hillcrest High School become a reality.  Over the past five years, he has dedicated countless hours, expertise and resources as the general contractor.  His donated services and knowledge exemplify the spirit of giving back.  We are grateful for his efforts in adding such a great feature for Ammon.
  • Lavona Borg
LaVona has personally donated a lot of time and materials to provide the Ammon library with handouts for the patrons. These have included beautiful library bags with fun logos as well as bookmarks with tassels.  Patrons have enjoyed these handouts for many months.  She has continued to check in and look for countless ways to help and be involved.  Our library and community thank you, Lavona, for your dedication to this cause.
  • Tucker Haderlie
Tucker has gone above and beyond by generously donating his and his firm's time and expertise to bring Westmark Stadium to life. Tucker's selfless dedication to the community of Ammon is further exemplified by his design of the city's first veteran’s memorial, a poignant tribute to those who have served their country.  His service will leave a lasting legacy in the city of Ammon.
  • Christi Shelby
Christi has been a great volunteer with getting the Ammon library on its feet.  She has served late at night with supplies, helping to get the building physically ready.  She has also been involved with the library's “Friends” group and has sifted through and helped move around so many donations, a job that was not desirable or easy to do.  Thanks to Christi for giving so much for her community.
  • Lori and Shane Holden
Shane and Lori and their company donated concrete to the Westmark Stadium project, without which the stadium would not be able to be built.  They have also contributed to and assisted with the Veterans Memorial project.  They have a genuine desire to see the Ammon community flourish, and we are grateful for their example of service.
  • Fred Downard
Fred has been heavily involved with the “Friends of the Library” group, donating many hours, attending meetings, helping with communications and community outreach, and much more.  He has been a kind and steady influence in the success of the Ammon library, and has contributed much in the way of his time and efforts.  Thanks Fred for helping Ammon have a library of its own.
