Deputy undergoes surgery after severely injured while patrolling river

RIGBY, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE 6/22/20 2:50 p.m. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports deputy Tyler Thomson was injured while patrolling the South Fork of the Snake River on Sunday.

Deputy Thomson underwent surgery on Monday for severe internal injuries.

Sheriff Steve Anderson said the surgery was successful and the prognosis for his full recovery is good.


ORIGINAL: Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson reports a deputy was severely injured while patrolling the Southfork River Sunday around 6:00 p.m. 

The deputy's watercraft struck a log, and he was ejected into the water causing severe internal injuries. 

The deputy was life-flighted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, and his condition is unknown at this time.
