Veteran homicide attorney added to Vallow/Daybell prosecution team

FREMONT COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) - A veteran homicide attorney has been added to the prosecution team in the cases of Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow-Daybell.

You can watch Monday's hearing below.

Prosecutor Rob Wood filed a motion last week to add Rachel Smith out of Missouri.

Wood said due to the complications of this case, he would need more expertise and help with gathering evidence.

Concerns were brought up by the judge and Chad Daybell's lawyer John Prior that this is technically a Fremont County case and no one from those courts has been consulted on the matter.

UPDATE: 3-30-21- 7th District Judge Steven Boyce signed an order admitting attorney Rachel Smith "pro hac vice" to the Prosecution team. He ordered Wood or an authorized Madison County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney "serve as Local Counsel, whose attendance would be required in all court proceedings in which Smith appears, unless specifically excused by the court."

A status conference has been scheduled for April 7.
