Donate turkeys for the Idaho Foodbank to share with families in need

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) – The Idaho Foodbank’s Hope for the Holidays campaign has a goal to provide food for 4 million meals. Right now, there are multiple opportunities in Pocatello to donate frozen turkeys to help your neighbors who are struggling this holiday season.

Barrie’s Ski and Sports in Pocatello is currently accepting frozen turkey donations. These turkeys will go to The Idaho Foodbank as part of Barrie’s annual Cranksgiving Event. On Saturday, Nov. 18 there will be a bicycle ride to deliver these turkeys to The Idaho Foodbank. Turkeys can be brought to Barrie’s Ski and Sports at 624 Yellowstone Avenue in Pocatello until the morning of Nov. 18.

Food bank directors say they have nearly 19 pallets of boxes stuffed with Thanksgiving goodies. But that is still just a drop in the bucket.

9 and a half percent of Bannock County is food insecure according to the food bank. Which means they need a lot of help to make sure they all receive even a taste of thanksgiving.

"We are a little short of our goal right now," Eastern Idaho Food Bank manager Kia Shaw said. "We still have about a day and a half to bring all those birds and that we need. And this community has been wonderful stepping up and meeting that call and we just need that smidgen more that push us over the edge so that way we can make sure everyone gets a holiday meat This season."

Give the Cops a Bird is hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police. At this annual event, they are collecting financial donations and frozen turkeys for The Idaho Foodbank. Turkeys can be dropped off at the lobby of the Pocatello Police Department through Friday, Nov. 17.
