WASHINGTON, D.C. (KIFI/KIDK)-Two regional airports will receive a share of $8.2 million in federal airport infrastructure grants for Idaho.

Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao said Pocatello Regional Airport will receive $1,409,100 to repair a runway apron.

The Lemhi County Airport in Salmon will receive two separate grants. One for $1 million will help expand the runway apron and another for $1,166,409 will rebuild the apron itself.

Also receiving grants were Buhl Municipal Airport, Gooding Municipal Airport, and Joslin Field-Magic Valley.

"The robust economy is enabling more passengers to travel by air so this Administration is investing billions of dollars in America's airports which will address safer airport operations, fewer airport delays, and greater ease of travel for air travelers," said Chao.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, civil aviation supports more than 5% of the country's gross domestic product, $1.6 trillion in economic activity, and nearly 11 million jobs.

The grant funding revenue is generated by aviation excise taxes.
