12 displaced after fire at adult assisted living facility

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - At 2:58 p.m. this afternoon, Nov. 22, 2023, the Idaho Falls Fire Department was dispatched to an adult living facility located at 163 E Elva Street in Idaho Falls for a report of a structure fire.

When Engine 1 arrived on the scene at 3:02 p.m., they reported a small single-story residence with heavy smoke coming from the home, with an evacuation in progress.

Idaho Falls Power responded to assist with utilities.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to one back bedroom. The fire was extinguished by 3:05 p.m., and firefighters provided ventilation to the home while checking for fire extension into other rooms and the attic.

The three occupants who live in the room where the fire originated were at work at the time of the fire. Two other residents were home at the time of the fire but were uninjured and evacuated safely.

There were no injuries to civilians or first responders.

A total of approximately twelve individuals lived in the home, all of whom were temporarily displaced due to fire and smoke damage to the home.

The Chaplains of Idaho responded to assist the manager with finding alternate places for the residents to live and to provide other support as needed.

The estimated damages, and the cause of the fire, are unknown at this time. The fire is under investigation by the IFFD’s Fire Prevention and Investigation Division.
