3 things to know this morning – January 31, 2024

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Here's what you should know to start your Wednesday.

1. Jackson Hole Fire Chief, Stephen Jellie, has been offered severance pay by the County Commissioners. He is accepting a settlement agreement and will resign from the department.  The news comes after months of controversy and public comment on the changes made during Jellie's tenure as Fire Chief.

2. An Idaho state ban on gender affirming care for transgender minors is being blocked once again from going into action. This time by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. They upheld a lower court’s ruling blocking enforcement of the law while a lawsuit makes it way through the courts. The law was initially set to take effect on January 1st.

3. House Representatives have put on hold a bill that would give school teachers a right to carry guns while at school. The bill was scheduled for a vote yesterday, but house members voted instead to keep it on the calendar for now. They are hoping to avoid amendments once it crosses over to the senate chambers.
