Becky Hammon thriving in 1st season as WNBA coach of Aces

NEW YORK (AP) — Becky Hammon was an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs for eight seasons. She had some job interviews for NBA head coaching gigs, but wasn’t chosen. So she decided to switch to the WNBA, and got to choose between two teams she once played for. Hammon picked the Las Vegas Aces, which now lead the Western Conference with a 17-7 record. The former New York Liberty star got Las Vegas got off to a great start, winning 13 of its first 15 games. Hammon, the first WNBA coach to receive a million dollar annual salary, keeps in touch with the Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. She said he watches all the Aces games.
