Italy captures 1st win in World Amateur Team Championship

KIFI

PARIS (AP) — Italy has its first gold medal in 32 tries at golf’s World Amateur Team Championship. Marco Florioli shot a 65 and Pietro Bovari added a 68. That was barely enough to carry Italy to a one-shot victory over Sweden at Le Golf National. The leading two scores from each four-man team count for the score. Italy played so well it didn’t need the 70 for Filippo Celli. He was the low amateur in the British Open at St. Andrews. The Americans won the bronze. They finished four shots behind.
