Team and community honors Dillon Waymire at senior night

ARCO, Idaho (KIFI) - Community support for Dillon Waymire, a football player at Butte County High School, is on display Friday.

He collapsed during last week's game from a blood clot in his brain.

Since his emergency surgery, Waymire has been in recovery at a Boise hospital.

A GoFundMe has raised more than $43,000, and Friday night, his team is honoring him as part of its senior night with all proceeds from the football game going to the Waymire family to cover his medical costs.

At a normal football game, all proceeds would usually go out to the high school, but instead everything from admission, concessions, t-shirts and even Krispy Kreme doughnuts is going to Dillon’s recovery.

They also painted the 13 yard line orange, and the midfield is painted 13, which is Dillon's jersey number.

"Dillon has been one of our team leaders," coach Sam Thorngren said. "We just want to get him home and get him better. We miss the guy and hope he is able to watch. It's a pretty special night."

Dillon is continuing his recovery and was able to give two thumbs ups Thursday and is slowly easing out of sedation.
