The Nation’s Weather for Friday, January 1, 2021

_____

NATIONAL SUMMARY

A broad storm system will bring a slew of weather concerns

across the Central and Eastern states for the first day of

2021 tomorrow. Ice will encase areas from the central Plains

to the lower Great Lakes and central Appalachians, leading

to slippery travel and localized damage to trees and power

lines. Snow will fall along the northwestern periphery of

the storm from Kansas to Michigan, while rain will soak

much of the Ohio and Tennessee valleys and mid-Atlantic.

Heavy to locally severe thunderstorms could ignite across

the warm Southeast. Dry, cool weather will infiltrate Texas

and Louisiana and extend westward into the Southwest. Yet

another storm is forecast to bring rain and mountain snow

to the Pacific Northwest.
