Chance of showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds Saturday; Red Flag Warning

A weak push of stormy weather moves in late Friday night to kick off the weekend. We’ll look for some thunderstorms and scattered showers for Saturday. There will also be gusty winds.

For Saturday, There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Partly cloudy, with a high temperature near 80°. WInds will be out of the south-southwest around 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Saturday, due to the risk of lightning strikes and gusty winds.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue into Saturday night. Mostly cloudy, with a low temperature around 50°. West northwest winds will be around 15 to 20 mph, becoming light and variable after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 9 PM MDT SATURDAY FOR SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS

The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a Red Flag Warning for scattered thunderstorms, which is in effect from 6 AM to 9 PM MDT Saturday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

  • IMPACTS…Critical fire weather conditions are expected Saturday. Lightning may generate new fire starts. Any new fire starts or existing fires may spread rapidly.
  • THUNDERSTORMS…25 to 45 percent coverage.
  • OUTFLOW WINDS…Stronger storms will be capable of producing wind gusts up to 55 mph.
