Accident at Chinese Peak causes search and rescue, canceled after girl shows up at hospital
A local 17-year-old girl is recovering from an accident on Chinese Peak in Pocatello.
On Friday, Aug. 30, Portneuf Air Rescue and Bannock County Search and Rescue spent more than two hours searching for the girl and her pickup truck, which went off the top of Chinese Peak.
Around 5 p.m., the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a pickup had tumbled off the mountain and flipped multiple times before landing in the bottom of a ravine.
Sheriff’s deputies found the truck with blood inside it but nobody around, so they called Portneuf Medical Center’s helicopter ambulance to help with the search.
Around 8 p.m., the search ended when it was reported the teenage girl who was driving the truck showed up at the hospital and was being treated.
The girl’s injuries are not life-threatening and the incident is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, according to the Idaho State Journal.
