Warmest temps of Memorial Day weekend to bring gusty winds, thunderstorms

KIFI

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- Thunderstorms rolling in Sunday afternoon and evening are producing erratic wind gusts between 35 and 50 mph in some areas. Memorial Day will bring the warmest temperatures of the holiday weekend alongside another round of gusty thunderstorm winds.

The active weather pattern includes a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm Sunday afternoon. Idaho Falls Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 46 degrees. Winds will shift overnight, going from southwest winds 5 to 15 mph to becoming northeast winds after midnight with gusts potentially reaching 24 mph.

Memorial Day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 84 and a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Winds will be coming from the southwest with speeds between 8 to 13 mph. Gusts up to 22 mph possible. Some areas could see gusts getting up to 35 mph with the central mountains facing the highest risk. The overnight low will be in the upper 40s.

The warm holiday weather pattern breaks on Tuesday as part of a low pressure system moves into the Great Basin and meanders through the middle and latter half of the week. This system will keep regional weather highly volatile, introducing daily storm chances and breezy conditions.

Following Tuesday, regional temperatures are expected to drop to seasonal averages in the 60s and 70s.
