High pressure brings dry weather before a quick storm hits Monday

KIFI

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- Sub-freezing temperatures will return tonight under mostly clear skies, with low temperatures dropping to around 30 degrees across the area.

The cold morning will give way to a sunny and mild Sunday, with daytime high temperatures warming to near 56 degrees.

High pressure building across the region will keep weather conditions dry through the weekend and into Monday. Daytime high temperatures through early next week will range from approximately 48 to 59 degrees, while overnight lows fall between 30 and 35 degrees.

Tonight will remain mostly clear. Sunday is expected to feature calm morning winds that shift north at around five mph. Sunday night will be partly cloudy with light, variable winds and a low around 33 degrees.

Dry conditions persist into Monday, which will bring mostly sunny skies and a high near 59 degrees before the next storm system moves in. The weather service reports a 70% chance of rain Monday night, accompanied by mostly cloudy skies and a low around 34 degrees.

Weather forecasters expect the incoming system to pass through quickly, limiting overall precipitation amounts. However, dropping temperatures will allow for one to three inches of snow accumulation above 6,500 to 7,000 feet. Weather forecasters note that higher ridgetops could see slightly greater amounts, though precise ridgetop totals remain estimated. Tuesday will bring breezy conditions, a 30% chance of rain before noon and a high near 48 degrees.
