POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - The Sugar-Salem Diggers won a second straight state football championship Saturday at Holt Arena. After winning its first in school history last year, Head Coach Tyler Richins is turning Sugar-Salem into a football power.

"The kids have bought in. The community has bought in and the culture has changed so much. The youth programs are coming in strong. They are all talking football and that's what we want right now."

The Diggers beat Homedale for both championships. Last year, it was in the Treasure Valley at Middleton High School. This time around, they got to do it closer to home at Holt Arena.

"We play all our playoff games in the dome," says senior running back and linebacker Browning Bennion. "It's honestly like our second home field. We're in a comfortable situation. It helped with the state championship jitters."

Sugar-Salem will hang their most recent championship banner at a ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
