Idaho Won’t Give Comprehensive Student Count To Federal Government

The state of Idaho will be one of two states that will not report specific high school graduation information to the federal government next year.

Beside Kentucky, the other 48 states will be able to provide the information.

So why won’t Idaho be able to? According to the Idaho Education Committee, the Gem State has not had a high tech student counting system until last year after a previous plan failed.

Also, because Idaho’s system is so new, the federal government awarded the state an exemption.

“Idaho is the last state in the nation to have a statewide data system to calculate this data, but we are on the path calculate this data and have it available in the next three years,” Idaho Education Committee spokesperson Melissa McGrath.

The U.S. Department of Education said that with the new high tech counting systems across the nation, they expect the national graduation rates to decrease since states will be forced to be more accurate.
